Engineering consultancy brings together technical expertise, complex documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and decisions that can influence a project for decades. As infrastructure projects grow in scale, professionals need practical ways to manage information and communicate ideas without compromising engineering accuracy or professional accountability.

On October 15, 2025, Development Design Consultants Limited (DDC) hosted a specialized session on “AI for Engineering Consultancy Professionals,” facilitated by NetCom Learning Bangladesh.

DDC is a multidisciplinary consultancy serving government agencies, private organizations, and international institutions. Its portfolio includes major infrastructure assignments such as the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT Line-6) and the 14-story Dhaka Stock Exchange office complex. The session reflected the organization’s continuing interest in strengthening professional capabilities alongside its engineering expertise.

The program was led by MD Imdadul Islam, Head of Training & Solutions at NetCom Learning Bangladesh and an AI CERTs® Certified Trainer. Syed Akhlakuzzaman Opu, Head of HR at DDC, and Professor Raquib Ahsan, PhD, from the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and an adviser to DDC, also supported the initiative.

Designed around the realities of engineering consultancy, the session examined how AI-assisted tools can support tender preparation, project scheduling, milestone planning, resource allocation, documentation, reporting, and professional communication. Participants explored ways to organize information, develop initial work plans, summarize lengthy documents, and prepare clearer proposals and presentations.

The discussion also considered AI-assisted visualization for developing preliminary diagrams, conceptual illustrations, presentation materials, and other communication assets. These applications can help engineers explain complex ideas more clearly, but technical drawings, quantities, schedules, specifications, and contractual documents must always be reviewed and approved by qualified professionals.

A central message of the training was that AI should support engineering judgment rather than replace it. Any AI-generated calculation, recommendation, reference, or project output requires validation against applicable codes, contractual requirements, reliable source data, and the actual conditions of the project.

Information security is equally important in engineering consultancy. Tender documents, client records, project designs, cost estimates, contractual information, and government data should only be processed through systems approved by the organization. Clear governance and human oversight are essential before AI-assisted workflows are introduced into live projects.

The session also highlighted the importance of continuing professional development in AI, cloud technology, data analysis, and digitally enabled project management. Building these capabilities can help Bangladesh’s engineering professionals collaborate more effectively and respond confidently to increasingly complex infrastructure requirements.
