University students use digital platforms every day for learning, communication, financial transactions, research, and career development. These opportunities also expose them to risks such as phishing, account theft, malicious links, online fraud, privacy breaches, and unsafe sharing of personal information.

To help students navigate this environment more safely, NetCom Learning Bangladesh conducted a session on “Cyber Security & Digital Safety for Students” at the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT).

The session was designed to make cybersecurity practical and relevant to students from both business and technology backgrounds. Rather than treating digital safety as a concern only for IT professionals, the discussion demonstrated why every student needs basic cybersecurity knowledge.

Participants explored common cyber threats and how attackers use social engineering to manipulate people into revealing passwords, financial information, or other sensitive data. The session also covered practical steps for recognizing suspicious emails and messages, avoiding unsafe links and downloads, and responding appropriately when an account or device may have been compromised.

Students were introduced to everyday security practices such as creating strong and unique passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, reviewing application permissions, updating devices, protecting social media accounts, and using public Wi-Fi carefully. Attention was also given to responsible online behavior, privacy awareness, and the long-term impact of a person’s digital footprint.

The session emphasized that technology alone cannot prevent every cyber incident. Human awareness remains one of the strongest layers of protection. Students who learn to question unusual requests, verify information, and respond calmly to potential threats are better prepared to protect themselves and the organizations they may join in the future.

The Cyber Security and Digital Safety session at BUBT reflected a shared commitment to preparing students for responsible participation in the digital economy.
